Richie Worrall says he’s enjoyed the best races of his career at Glasgow – and can’t wait for more in 2016.
The 24-year-old – who this year made Great Britain’s provisional squad for the World Cup – has signed up at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on a 6.84 average.
He completes a formidable top four alongside Richard Lawson, Aaron Summers and Ben Barker.
Speaking from Australia, where he’s spending the winter, the former Newcastle starlet said: “I’m very excited about joining Glasgow. They’re a great bunch of lads in the team for this coming season and they have an excellent facility for me to race at every Sunday.
“They have the loudest fans, the promotion are amazing to deal with and the track suits me well.
“There are a lot of good things that have drawn me to Glasgow, the main ones being the way Stewart Dickson and all the promotion were behind me when I guested for the team previously.
“In addition, Glasgow now have probably the best facility in the whole of the UK for riders and for fans. The viewing there is second to none, and the track can be raced hard, as the fans see every week.
“The design and shape of the track makes for good racing. If I was to look back and think about where I have had the best races of my career so far, I would say Ashfield.”
Worrall became a familiar face for Tigers fans last season as he not only guested several times, but he also had a high-profile coming together with Glasgow captain Summers during Somerset’s visit to the track in August.
However, Worrall – twin of Newcastle rider Steve – said: “What happened with me and Aaron was a spur-of-the-moment thing.
“When an accident happens that costs points and money, adrenaline starts flowing and things happen or get said. Sometimes you regret them, sometimes you don’t.
“That has long gone under the bridge and I have a lot of respect for him, for how fast he was all year, and I’m sure he will carry that form into 2016.
“With the team we’re putting out there, I’m sure we’ll win a whole bunch of silverware, to give back to the club for their efforts in doing what they have done in the last couple of years and getting to where they are now.”
And he told Glasgow fans: “I’m very excited to get the season started and hear all you guys getting behind us.
“The team is looking strong and I’m pretty confident we’re all going to have an awesome year together. See you all soon.”
Team manager Dickson said: “I spoke to Richie’s parent club Belle Vue and they told me he had made it quite clear he wasn’t going back to Somerset. We made a move and got him tied up.
“The fact that he’s not coming in to do the job of a heatleader, I think, will take a bit of pressure off him. He likes the Glasgow track and he is quite a hard racer. I think he fits in with what we’re trying to put together next year.”
