GLASGOW bosses hope a bumper crowd will pack the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium this Saturday as Glasgow and Edinburgh vie to reach the summit of the SGB Championship.
The Scottish sides currently occupy the top two places in the league after storming starts to the season.
The Monarchs face three meetings in three days – starting tonight (Thursday) – and could extend their three-point lead over their fierce rivals with further wins.
But Glasgow are desperate to keep the pressure on and build on their 13 points from five meetings.
Ashfield hosted one of its best-ever races last weekend as Aaron Summers and Craig Cook played out an epic battle over four laps.
And Glasgow chief Stewart Dickson believes things could be just as hotly-contested this Saturday.
He said: “Although due to a water shortage the track wasn’t at its best last week, it still produced one of the best races seen at Ashfield with heat 13 being shown all round Britain on the BSPA website.
“This is our biggest meeting of the season so far. Scottish derbies are big enough, but both teams are challenging at the top of the league, so it’s huge already.
“It’s our first Saturday night derby too – and it’s set to be a fantastic spectacle. It should bring the crowds out.
“We saw last week just how good our track can be when two riders go for it. I’d expect more of the same with plenty of guys in their team who know the fastest way round our place.
“It’s going to be a tough meeting – their tails will be up from their recent run of five wins – but we will be right up for the battle too. With the form some of our heatleaders have shown of late, I’d expect this one to go right down to the wire.”
Tigers fans are being urged to bring a friend to the meeting and help showcase the facilities and on-track action.
The action gets under way at 7pm.
