GLASGOW chiefs believe their trip to Newcastle has taken on even more importance as they look to recover from a disappointing defeat at Redcar on Thursday night.
The Tigers relinquished an eight-point lead on Teeside, leaving with just one point to add to their SGB Championship total.
They now trail several of their rivals at the top of the table – some of whom have taken important victories on the road in recent weeks.
Newcastle are a tougher prospect than when Glasgow won there earlier in the season – with Steve Worrall, who was absent on that occasion, back in the line-up.
However, team manager Stewart Dickson says his side have to see a win in this meeting as vital to their chances of finishing top of the league and getting first pick in the end-of-season playoffs.
He said: “I think it does take on more importance now. Before the two away matches I fancied Redcar as the easier of the two. I think everybody probably though that deep down.
“Newcastle are a bit of a tougher nut to crack, especially around their own patch. It was important before but Thursday’s defeat does add a bit more significance.
“But I’m under no illusions as to how tough it’s going to be. It’s a biggie and we’ll have a big support down there, because we don’t have a home weekend match.
“We need to try and get a win on Tyneside, it won’t be easy but in every away match we’ve got to try and get points.
“There’s a long way to go and we are far from finished but we need to regroup and get it together. The boys are as disappointed as I am about Thursday night and hopefully we can bounce back today.”
