BOSS Cami Brown insists he’ll be the “happiest man on the planet” if his Glasgow side make the play-off final – even if they do it with just a point to spare.
The Tigers take a 51-38 lead to Derwent Park tonight following the first leg at Ashfield earlier today.
A 39-point haul in Cumbria will be enough to book their place in the final against either Lakeside or Peterborough.
And that would also be enough for the Glasgow manager who believes his team are facing their toughest fixture of all.
“A win against Workington is a win – that was the first target, to win the match,” he said.
“We’d have liked a few more points but 13 is better than nothing. We saw what happened down there to Edinburgh a few weeks ago – they had a 28-point lead and they lost it – so it shows the magnitude of the task we have.
“We need to get 39 points, and to be perfectly honest, if we go there and lose 51-39 I will be the happiest man on the planet.
“It’s just about getting through this match. I’ve said it before that I think if we win this tie we will go on to win the whole thing.
“There’s nothing certain about that but I think the two strongest teams are racing in this tie.”
Claus Vissing scored a 13+2 paid maximum for the Tigers and his last-bend pass on Mason Campton in heat 12 helped Glasgow to finish the meeting the stronger of the teams.
The gap could’ve been even bigger had Chris Harris not had a mechanical failure on the final bend in his second race while on a 3-3, letting both Workington riders through for an unlikely 5-1.
However, the away team had their own misfortune with a series of early retirements as they initially struggled with track conditions.
The second leg begins at 7.30pm.
