GLASGOW are revving up for their biggest weekend of the season so far as they face two meetings in less than 24 hours against a pair of playoff rivals.
Stewart Dickson leads his side to Cumbria to face Workington on Saturday night, then second-placed Ipswich are at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
And although both opponents have their eyes firmly set on putting a dent in the Tigers’ charge, there’s a confident mood among the team who currently top the SGB Championship after their convincing win at Scunthorpe.
Dickson said: “It’s a big weekend. We’ll be going to Workington try and get a win and I’ve no doubt we’ll be backed by another good support.
“Our tails are up and you start to look forward to these meetings. We want to build on our +21 points difference – every meeting you go away from home you hope you can add to it – but at the same time, Sunday is more important.
“If we don’t win on Saturday night, as long as we don’t lose on Sunday, nobody really gains on us. That’s the way you’ve got to look at it.
“With the way Ipswich are putting points together, I think it’s getting to the stage of being our most important meeting so far.”
Skipper Aaron Summers is in similarly buoyant mood – and says there’s nothing standing in the way of the Tigers taking points from both meetings, as they’ve done in 19 of their 20 fixtures thus far.
He said: “Workington are strong but we have good riders – Richard Lawson has ridden for them before and goes really well round there.
“On Sunday we’ll just do as we have done in every tough meeting at home and get all the points we can.
“With the form that everyone’s in at the minute, if we can carry that into Sunday, there’s no reason why we can’t stop Ipswich taking anything away from Ashfield.
“We have had a few close meetings but the Berwick match showed what we can do at home and what we can score. We can only build on from that.”
Glasgow are a point ahead of Ipswich but that could change when third-placed Edinburgh visit the Witches tonight (Thursday).
