Glasgow’s 2016 line-up is complete – after the final three riders were revealed to fans at the Glasgow Tigers Supporters’ Group’s event last night.
Team Great Britain squad member Richie Worrall, 24, is the final member of a formidable top four and arrives on an average of 6.84. Having previously been a No 1 for the likes of Ipswich, it’s hoped that the St Helens-based rider – who spent 2015 with Somerset, winning the KO Cup – can get back to his best at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium. He’s spending the winter in Australia where he’s already competed in a series of meetings against top riders.
The Tigers’ second reserve will be the 21-year-old Argentinian Fernando ‘Coty’ Garcia. He’ll be a familiar name to Glasgow fans having guested for Edinburgh at Armadale in the League Cup final and performed admirably. He started his British career at Berwick last year and is on a three-point average – but many feel he has the potential for big things if his equipment matches his enthusiasm.
Glasgow’s final signing is the two-time Finnish under-21 champion Nike Lunna. The 19-year-old was also a 2015 British speedway debutant with Scunthorpe, but managed to achieve a 4.50 average and scored 118 points from 105 races for the Scorpions. The Finnish Grand Prix reserve impressed on his Ashfield visits last season and is an exciting prospect for 2016. His average dictates that he’ll start in the main body of the side.
The trio join Richard Lawson, Aaron Summers, Ben Barker and Danny Ayres at the Allied Glasgow Tigers next season.
