GLASGOW Tigers sealed their first trophy of their new era – and team boss Stewart Dickson insisted: there’s plenty more to come.
The Ashfield men turned on the style to hammer Newcastle 59-31 and lift the KO Cup, the first silverware they’ve won since their £2 million takeover in 2014.
Dickson said: “I’m overjoyed and ecstatic. It’s the first trophy under the new era for the Facennas. Getting that first one was always going to be the most difficult I felt.
“You listen to the noise and atmosphere – this is what it’s all about.
“The supporters have waited a couple of years and we’ve had to watch our neighbours in the east at Edinburgh winning trophy after trophy, so it’s nice to get off the mark under the Facennas, and there are hopefully more to come.”
The only low point for the Tigers was the loss of reserve Danny Ayres in a horrifying heat two crash that saw him pile into the air fence. He took a trip to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder and possible broken wrist.
More reaction to follow.
