Glasgow laid down the Law at Scunthorpe tonight to claim their fourth away win of the season.
Richard Lawson sailed to a flawless 15-point maximum to lead the Tigers to three Premier League points with a 47-42 win.
The away side were unlucky not to claim all four points as on four different occasions their riders found themselves on the deck and excluded from the race – although thankfully there were no injuries.
The choice of Ipswich’s Nico Covatti as a guest for James Sarjeant was inspired as the Argentine won his last three races to bag 10 points, while Glasgow’s Australian World Cup star Nick Morris produced some superb passes and was better value than his 10 points suggested.
At reserve, Dimitri Berge scored three – although he was in many people’s eyes unfairly excluded when part of a Tigers 5-1 in heat 14 – while Victor Palovaara failing to register anything on the scoring chart.
David Howe, making his Tigers debut on a track where he spent six seasons, grew into the meeting and his 4+1 was a decent return on his comeback to the sport. Captain Aaron Summers scored five, having found himself out of heat 10 when he fell on the first bend.
Team boss Stewart Dickson said: “It was pretty incident-packed and entertaining.
“We got three points – it would have been nice to get four. It was a horrendous decision in heat 14 to exclude Dimitri Berge when we were on a 5-1. He came out the second bend and Carl Wilkinson ran into the back of him, and they excluded Dimitri, so I couldn’t quite get my head around that one.
“Then Nick was chasing round the outside in heat 15 and overcooked it a wee bit. Aaron Summers had a bad crash also. But we leave in one piece.
“We thank our guest Nico Covatti, he did a good job. The fourth point would’ve been a bonus, but any sort of win on any sort of away track will do me, and hopefully we can add another three on Sunday. That’s the plan.”
Dickson paid tribute to his two top men, adding: “Richard was untouchable, I’ve got to be honest. And in heat one, Nick got the third-fastest ever time recorded at the Eddie Wright Raceway. We’re happy with that.”
The win takes Glasgow onto 20 points from nine meetings, just one behind Sheffield in fourth place, who have a match in hand.
