The Western Commercial Tigers make two changes for this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Ipswich Witches at Ashfield.
Skipper Joe Screen has suffered a broken finger in his fall at Redcar on Thursday night and is expected to miss several of the club’s remaining fixtures in what will be the closing weeks of our campaign as well as Joe’s 24 year career. We extend our best wishes to Joe and hope that we will yet get the chance to see him back in the saddle before the curtain comes down on 2013.
Tigers have invoked the guest facility and managed to secure the Aussie team manager and Plymouth star Mark Lemon who will line-up at No.1 in place of Joe this afternoon. Otherwise the Tigers line-up as they did last Sunday when eventually losing out so narrowly to league leaders Somerset.
The other big news off track is, following Sean Courtney’s departure from the club, that the ‘special one’ – former club owner and championship winning team boss – Stewart Dickson has agreed to once again take charge of the team for this afternoon’s meeting.
Stewart, who has kept in touch with the club since selling the promoting rights with Alan Dick to Alun Biggart at the end of 2012, will once again bring his own brand of motivational management to the home side of the Ashfield pits today.
This afternoon’s meeting will mark our annual Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund collection which provides invaluable assistance to injured riders and their families. We will ask the riders of both teams to come amongst you mid meeting to accept your donation – thank you in advance.
Once again the racing will be top drawer, and you can be guaranteed that both teams will give 100% effort to determine the destiny of the league points on offer. With all that has happened, is the script written for a sensational (by 2013 standards) afternoon when tapes go up against the Witches at 3pm today?
Make sure that you are there to see it all unfold for yourself, the stage is set, the weather is good – see you there.
PS – today is the last, pre event, opportunity to purchase your tickets for this Saturday’s fund raising Sports Dinner at the Marriott Hotel.
