The Tigers travelled to West Lothian knowing exactly what was required of them and duly secured a place in the semi finals of the KO cup.
With the end of season playoffs rapidly approaching and a league cup semi final against Workington to look forward to hopes were high that we could keep our treble chances alive.
Despite a healthy lead from the first leg the tie was far from over with the Monarchs always a difficult proposition at Armadale.
Prior to this evening’s meeting, team manager Stewart Dickson called on his riders to stay “sensible” as they defended a twenty four point lead – they did this and more, running out comfortable 95-78 winners on aggregate.
The score on the night was 48-41 to the Monarchs but the Tigers were never really in trouble with eleven of the fifteen heats shared 3-3.
With the home side failing to make any real inroads into the first leg deficit there was no mention of the aggregate score by the meeting presenter until the match was almost over. However, both sets of fans were well aware that as the second leg wore on it was a case of when as opposed to if the Tigers would confirm their place in the semi final against Somerset.
Richard Lawson managed two heat wins and Rene Bach one while Richie Worrall was undoubtedly the away side’s star performer with a classy thirteen point haul.
The men in red and white walked from the pits to the where the large Tigers support were congregated on the third bend to show their thanks for more fantastic backing away from home. The appreciation was mutual as the riders along with team manager Stewart Dickson were rightly congratulated for a fine victory over the two legs.
