Glasgow have pulled level with Somerset in third place in the Premier League after a convincing win over Berwick today.
The Tigers beat the Bandits 58-34 to take three league points in a meeting that saw the home side rarely challenged.
The visitors landed just two heat advantages as the home team’s top trio of Richard Lawson, Aaron Summers and guest Josh Grajczonek proved too powerful – each of them bagging double-figure scores.
It followed a win at Rye House last night, after the Tigers were well beaten at Somerset on Friday.
Lawson, who top scored today with 15+2, said: “I’m enjoying it – everything seems to be going well.
“We’ve got a good team spirit here. Unfortunately we’ve not got all seven riders but we’re still winning matches, that’s the main thing.
“It does affect us in one respect but you’ve just got to get on with it – it’ll be better when we have seven.
“Saturday at Rye House was good – it was good to bounce back from Friday’s disappointment. On Friday we were in it for seven heats and I had a few bike issues, and a couple of guys had problems and we fell apart unfortunately.”
Despite Friday’s result, Lawson is confident that the Tigers can compete with the sides right at the top end of the league – some of whom they’ll likely have to beat in the play-offs to win the title.
He said: “We beat Edinburgh away and they’re one of the toughest opponents you’ll get on their track.
“If we get back to seven riders, I think we’ve still got a good chance of topping the league.”
Lawson dropped his only point to the Bandits when he was beaten by their top man Thomas Jorgensen in heat seven – but he joined Grajczonek for flawless 5-1s in heats 13 and 15.
Grajczonek, who himself rides for Somerset – having started his career in Glasgow – was more than a capable stand-in for Nick Morris who is still out with injury.
And it was another good meeting for Swedish reserve Victor Palovaara, who scored 7+3 following his match-winning performance at Rye House last night.
Tigers scorers: Richard Lawson 15+2, Josh Grajczonek (guest) 13+1, Aaron Summers 13, Victor Palovaara 7+3, James Sarjeant 5+1, Ashley Morris (guest) 5, David Howe R/R.
