RICHARD Lawson has told Glasgow’s Premier League rivals to consider them serious title contenders – after they beat one of the pre-season favourites by more than 30 points.
The Tigers kept their unbeaten start to the season going with the 62-30 win over Peterborough at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.
Lawson was the leading scorer on 14, while comeback man Richie Worrall bagged a 12-point maximum.
The Glasgow No 1, who dropped just one point, says there’s a good feeling about the club – and thinks the result will make others sit up and take notice.
He said: “We all clicked. Everyone says we’ve got a strong top four and when we all click, we’re going to get big points. Not only that, you’ve got the other guys – everyone is chipping in. It’s a real strong side we’ve got going at the moment.
“The other teams have got to look at it and take it seriously. We are working together well as a team – I think the riding positions are good. Me and Nike are riding well, Nos 3 and 4 are going good, and Aaron’s good at No 5. The balance is really good and there’s a real positive vibe going about.
“I don’t like dropping points at home. But I was happy with my riding – the bike is working well. I just missed the start a bit in heat 13 but it’s about winning the matches at the end of the day and we comfortably did that.”
No 3 Worrall was impeccable on his return from a week out with a cracked rib, although boss Stewart Dickson opted for Lawson and the spectacular Ben Barker in heat 15.
Worrall said: “We both made the decision because me and Ulrich Ostergaard have had a few comings together in the past – he doesn’t give in and I don’t give in. He’d started gating, and I wouldn’t mind taking a tumble if we did come together, but I wasn’t feeling it today – I didn’t want to play with him today.”
However, he was chuffed with his day’s work – adding: “I wouldn’t have come back if I didn’t think I was ready to do it.
“I needed to make sure I was – that’s why I came on Saturday and had a practice.
“It’s not about how fast you come back, it’s about how well you come back – and I didn’t want to come back and under-perform – it would knock my confidence and it’s not good for the team. But we’re back now.”
Glasgow had to work for some of their points, the highlights being passes made by Barker and Nike Lunna, who both produced stunning sweeps round the air fence to get the better of the Panthers.
The visitors struggled to have two men completing a race early in the fixture, and only had two wins – both from Ostergaard – all afternoon.
It gives the Tigers another three Premier League points to add to the three gained last week against Redcar.
