SCOTTISH speedway will have a season-long presence on the airwaves – thanks to an innovative new collaboration between Glasgow and Edinburgh and radio station RockSport.
The sport will feature in an hour-long show, initially on Sundays between 9pm and 10pm, called Tapes Up.
Presented by the Tigers’ Derek Smith and Edinburgh press officer Graham Muncie, it’s the first-ever dedicated radio show for Scottish speedway.
The station has committed to keeping the programme running for the whole of the 2018 season and will primarily focus on the Scottish sides – while also touching on Berwick Bandits.
Tapes Up will feature interviews from home and visiting teams, and can be heard on DAB digital radio, on the RockSport Radio website and on social media.
The initiative is backed by both clubs as they seek to enhance media coverage throughout the 2018 season.
RockSport covers central Scotland with a mix of music and sport – and already features Tigers news on its website and its shows.
Smith said: “I am delighted that RockSport Radio is giving Scottish speedway a voice in such a big way. So many people work so very hard at both clubs – so we truly deserve this.
“I’m honoured to be able to fly the flag for Glasgow speedway and look forward to helping get the message out that the speedway scene is vibrant and a must-see in Scotland’s biggest city.
“I’m looking forward to locking horns with the Monarchs on air!”
Tune in tomorrow from 9pm to hear the opening show as the presenters look back on last night’s Scottish Cup first leg.
Meanwhile, Scottish speedway will also be showcased on national radio today (Saturday) from noon till 2pm as Tigers team boss Stewart Dickson appears as a guest on Off the Ball on BBC Radio Scotland, presented by Tam Cowan and Stuart Cosgrove.
