Glasgow’s
Swedish superstar Victor Palovaara will bid to become the speedway World Under-21 Champion this year after qualifying for the final of the competition tonight.
The 21-year-old will take part in the three-part series after he scored 10 points in Italy to book his place among a high-class field.
The Tigers had a second representative at the qualifier at Terenzano in Frenchman Dimitri Berge – but despite winning his first race ahead of Danish international Mikkel Bech, the 19-year-old ended on seven points which wasn’t enough to take him through.
However, Glasgow will be represented by another of their assets in the final after 2014 Tiger Anders Thomsen finished his qualifier in Slovakia earlier today joint-top with past Grand Prix winner Bartosz Zmarzlik on 14 points.
And there is further Scottish interest in ex-Edinburgh rider Max Fricke – the Australian, a 2014 Premier League winner with the Monarchs, scored a 15-point maximum in the same meeting as Palovaara and Berge to make himself one of the favourites for the title.
The three rounds of the final will be held between July and September in Italy, Poland and Czech Republic.
