AARON Summers says Glasgow are ready for a catfight when Sheffield bid to raid the Tigers’ den this Saturday night.
The Australian says a defeat on Sunday to Peterborough – the first time Glasgow had failed to win at least a league point in 15 matches – has left them desperate to prove their title credentials again.
It’s anticipated that the Yorkshire Tigers, featuring former Ashfield man Josh Grajczonek, Team GB prospect Kyle Howarth and Danish star Lasse Bjerre, will be one of the toughest tests Glasgow have faced so far this campaign.
But if the home team win, they could go within just a few points of rivals Edinburgh at the top of the SGB Championship with matches in hand.
Summers insists the Scottish Tigers will be ready – and hopes to see another packed stadium after nearly 2,000 people witnessed last week’s win against Ipswich.
The Glasgow skipper said: “Sheffield are one of the top teams in the league, and they are going to be a tough side to face.
“But given what happened to us this Sunday, the boys will be up for it. We’ll be ready to come back fighting.
“It was great to see last week that the club’s ticket initiative paid off – the terraces were nearly full.
“Although you don’t notice the fans when you’re racing, you can hear them when they’re noisy after a heat and hopefully we get more of the same this weekend.”
Despite looking like potential title favourites at what is almost the halfway stage in the Championship, Summers says the riders tend to turn a blind eye to their league standing – to make sure they’re fully focused on their weekly tasks.
He said: “I don’t really pay too much attention to it. I see the league sometimes if I’m reading about it but I’m just thinking about going out and winning as many meetings as we can and keep getting the points in at away meetings too.
“At the end of the season it all comes down to the play-offs over two legs anyway and I think we’d be in a decent position to beat any team that way.
“Apart from Sunday we can’t complain about any of our performances – we’ve picked up points every time – so I’d be confident that we wouldn’t have any problems.”
