CLAUS Vissing believes Glasgow can take use their rampant home form as a springboard to challenge for the SGB Championship play-offs.
The Dane and his team-mates beat Newcastle 58-32 at Ashfield tonight in their biggest win of the season to maintain their unbeaten home record.
Each of the six Tigers – with rider replacement in operation for the injured Nathan Greaves – were paid for at least one win each as they raced on home shale for the first time in a month.
No 1 Craig Cook scored a 15-point maximum while Chris Harris and Vissing dropped points just once each in an easy win over the struggling Diamonds.
Glasgow have four matches remaining against fellow play-off challengers which will decide their fate.
And Vissing – who was unbeaten until taking a fall in his final ride – says tonight’s return to form can give them confidence for their forthcoming fixtures.
“It’s brilliant – the team spirit tonight was so fantastic and it’s something for us to take onward to next week,” he said.
“We are all firing out the gates and that was definitely the difference tonight.
“Because we haven’t had a home meeting for so long, it felt like when you go to school and have the summer holiday, and come back to school, you can hardly remember what you used to do!
“It was a change to come back but the track was really well prepared and we just got our set-ups right, so we’re ready for our next meeting.
“I think we are ready to fight for our spot and we’ll do everything for it. We saw that from the team tonight – it’s a great boost for us to be ready for next week.”
The home team were never troubled as they raced to two opening 5-1s which effectively killed off the visitors’ chances – reserves Jack Thomas and James Sarjeant showing what they’re capable of with excellent performances.
Only the experienced duo of Stuart Robson and Matthew Wethers impressed for the away team, scoring 21 of their side’s points.
Ipswich visit Ashfield on Tuesday then Edinburgh – who racked up another huge home win tonight – come calling on September 11, followed by trips to Ipswich and Lakeside on September 13 and 14.
Glasgow must now look to take points from each of those meetings to secure their play-off place.
