Glasgow’s Victor Palovaara scored eight points in the first round of the World Under-21 Championship in Italy tonight.
The Tigers reserve started the event well – finishing second and then first, beating opposition like former Edinburgh star Max Fricke, the exciting Latvian Andzejs Lebedevs and British hopeful Stefan Nielsen.
He then posted three third places in the event at Lonigo, finishing ahead of up-and-coming Pole Pawel Przedpelski in his last ride.
The Swede can be reasonably happy with that showing against some world-class opposition – and with the leaders Bartosz Zmarzlik of Poland and Mikkel Michelsen of Denmark on 14 points, he is still in with a chance with two rounds remaining.
At the same event, 2014 Tiger and club asset Anders Thomsen raced to three second places to score 10 points overall, beating Palovaara in heat four and the likes of Somerset’s Brady Kurtz in heat eight.
