GLASGOW have handed the chance to up-and-coming British youngster Joe Lawlor as the second member of their 2019 team.
The 18-year-old, from Greater Manchester, is a product of Belle Vue’s famous youth set-up – and made a brief foray into racing in the second tier with Sheffield last season.
He’s now set for his first full term in the SGB Championship as the Tigers look to play their part in giving home-based talents a chance.
Lawlor, the 2017 Northern Junior League Riders’ Champion, joins Danish star Claus Vissing in the line-up.
He said: “It feels great – I wasn’t expecting to get the phonecall so early in my career but I can’t wait to get going.
“It’s a big jump up to the Championship – it’s a different level of racing compared with the National League – but I was on the pace for Sheffield last season and I scored a few points in my first meeting, so once I’m in it, and I get a bit more experience, I should be there or thereabouts.
“I always give it 100%, that’s for sure. I’m in training over the winter to make sure I’m 100% physically and mentally prepared for the season.
“It’s a big opportunity, so I’m going to give it my best shot.”
Lawlor joins on a two-point average, which leaves Glasgow with 29.06 points for their remaining five riders.
