Glasgow will take a six-point lead into the second leg of their KO Cup semi-final at Newcastle tonight after a 48-42 win at home today.
The Tigers struggled to pull away from the Diamonds in a close encounter at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.
Home skipper Aaron Summers top-scored with 16 and smashed the track record – which had already been broken by Newcastle No 1 Stevie Worrall in heat one – heading home heat nine in an incredible time of 56.1 seconds.
But the home team badly missed absent reserve Victor Palovaara, who had been on European U21 duty last night and hurt his ankle, with Liam Carr coming in to deputise but failing to score.
The second leg starts at 8pm. A full report will follow the meeting.
