RICHIE Worrall says he can’t wait to battle Edinburgh’s Speedway World Cup stars on Sunday – because most of his duels with the Monarchs this season have come with fans on Facebook!
The in-form Glasgow hero has admitted he loves the “banter” with the Edinburgh faithful who have ribbed him several times on social media – including over the success of twin brother Steve, who used to ride in the blue and gold.
But the 24-year-old insists it’s all good fun and part of the hype for the meeting dubbed British speedway’s biggest derby.
The sides go head-to-head in a massive KO Cup quarter-final first-leg clash at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium at 3pm – where the visitors will have three internationals on show.
Worrall said: “I just love the banter with them and I love winding them up.
“You look at how much effort has gone into getting the club to where it is after its £2 million overhaul, but some of them want to shoot it down. I’m really looking forward to this one.”
Glasgow are out to pile up the points ahead of the return leg on August 26.
Worrall added: “They will turn up with a good team and their lads go well around our place, but hopefully we will go better. I think we’re a lot stronger now that we’ve got Nike Lunna back at the bottom end.”
Tigers boss Stewart Dickson is seeking out a guest for Danny Ayres, who is out for a week with concussion.
He’s looking for his side to bounce back after missing out on a win at Redcar last night.
He said: “It’s a big match – and the build-up among the fans will take care of itself – but we’ll be ready come Sunday, I can guarantee that.”
The Monarchs’ Sam Masters, Ryan Fisher and Kevin Wolbert have been on World Cup duty this week for Australia, the USA and Germany respectively.
Sunday will be Richard Lawson’s last match at No 1 for Glasgow for the time being – as the August averages dictate that Aaron Summers moves to the top of the pile.
