GLASGOW boss Stewart Dickson insists tonight’s Scottish derby is far from meaningless – even if it won’t mean much in his team’s treble bid.
The Tigers travel to Edinburgh to complete their programmed Premier League fixtures.
The match will count towards the final points total, but with the play-off positions already decided, it won’t make a difference to where either team finishes.
However Dickson still wants to beat his biggest rivals, to start a big weekend for the club off in the best possible way.
Tomorrow night the Tigers are in Workington, defending a 64-25 lead in the League Cup semi-final second leg – facing Somerset in the final of that competition as long as they get an aggregate win.
Glasgow are without Coty Garcia tonight through injury, and Aaron Summers is out with flu, with Jack Smith and Ricky Wells guesting respectively.
Dickson said: “This weekend is just as big for me as last weekend was. I hear all the talk that Edinburgh’s a meaningless match – not for me it’s not. I want to go through and beat them.
“I want to beat Workington and I want to beat Somerset on Sunday.
“When you reach the finals, this is what comes – the guys don’t have a lot of time to recover between meetings. We don’t need to rush riders back, and that’s with no disrespect to those fixtures.”
Glasgow have had the upper hand over the Rebels in recent weeks, after knocking them out of the KO Cup last weekend.
But Dickson says they’ll be a hungrier team as a result.
He added: “Somerset will be licking their wounds but they will be up for it, guaranteed. They’ll come here and want to keep it as tight as possible.”
