DANNY Ayres says he’s desperate to go out with a bang with Glasgow – after a big confidence-boosting win at Edinburgh tonight.
The Tigers were convincing 55-38 winners at Armadale in their final Premier League fixture, with reserve Ayres scoring 5+2, including a heat two victory.
Ayres said it was the perfect tonic for their play-off heartache against Sheffield last night.
He said: “Edinburgh were depleted and we could only beat what was in front of us.
“There’s a lot of positives to take. My gates were exceptional.
“I would’ve been a lot happier to win my last ride and get 10 points, before I crashed. Nevertheless it was good to go there and win, because every one of us is distraught with what happened yesterday.”
Glasgow bagged two 5-1s in the first three heats at Edinburgh and that was pretty much game over, as the home team never managed to pull it back.
Aaron Summers scored a paid 15-point maximum with Richie Worrall and Rene Bach only dropping a point apiece. Chris Widman scored 3+1 guesting at reserve for the injured Coty Garcia.
Ayres admits he doesn’t know what next year will hold, but says he’s “had a ball” with the Tigers in 2016.
He said: “Personally I’m devastated with what happened against Sheffield, because I haven’t been able to make a difference to the team and help them get through.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of this year, but haven’t been able to relax and ride to my ability, which has held me back a little bit. That’s only because I’m so passionate about being with this team and winning.
“We’ve just got to pick ourselves up and try to bring this cup home for the fans, and for ourselves. The league title is gone – so we’ll take a day to get refreshed and go out with a bang.
“The way to top this off would be to win this cup and go wild in front of the crowd.
“I’ve been noticing all the big boys pouring the champagne in the boots to celebrate, so I’d love to join them.
“I want to give the fans something to cheer about. I’ve missed not being able to get involved with the crowd. Let’s just bring this cup home for the people of Glasgow on Monday as a thank you to everyone for their support.”
