Glasgow No 5 Richard Lawson will tonight bid to become British Champion – and book his place at this year’s British Grand Prix.
The Cumbrian is representing the Tigers, and his Elite League club Lakeside, at the British Final in Wolverhampton, which will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Lawson, 29, has never made the final of the event and believes all that is standing in the way of him getting there is himself.
If he wins the meeting, or is the best-placed among the non-Grand Prix riders, the former Workington man will travel to Cardiff as the wild card for the GP next month.
If he’s beaten by another non-GP rider, Lawson could still make the event as a reserve.
He said: “It’s a dream – to get to Cardiff would be good. I know the bikes are good enough now, I need to focus and get myself ready.
“I’ve had good races, but not put five together there, so I’ll stay focused and hopefully I can have a good one.
“You respect every rider that you race against. I think every single rider out there wants the same thing. You just go out there and take every race as it comes. You try to get in that final and go from there.”
