Glasgow kick-started their Premier League title charge tonight with a 47-42 win at Plymouth.
Each of the seven Tigers bagged a win or a paid win in a superb away performance.
It looked to be slipping away from the Ashfield men at one point as the Devils went six clear after just six heats.
But Dimitri Berge and Richard Lawson sailed to a 5-1 in the following race, and it was Lawson who made the meeting his own by winning the final two heats to get the Tigers over the line.
5-1s for the Tigers in heat 11, via Kozza Smith and Nick Morris, and then Lawson and James Sarjeant in heat 14, made all the difference.
Sarjeant proved his worth in heat 12 when stepping in for Berge from reserve and winning the race.
Sarjeant on Form
Team manager Stewart Dickson said: “I’m happy – it’s three points in the bag. Other teams will win at Plymouth, so it was important that we did as well.
“James Sarjeant I think was the hero. I brought him in heat 12 and he won it off gate four, and then he got a paid win in heat 14 off gate four with Richard.
“Nick was asked to go in heat 15 with Richard but there was something up with his bike and because we had the match won, we didn’t take any chances. It would have been Nick over Aaron but something wasn’t right with the bike and we were just worried something was going to go on it. Aaron’s seat then came loose on the first bend.
“Victor also blew an engine, unfortunately, in his last race.
“But all in all, it was a good team effort. It sets us up nicely for Sunday. It’s been a good week so far.”
The Tigers will aim add to the point they gained at Sheffield last night and the three they won tonight with another three at home to Scunthorpe on Sunday, tapes up 3pm.
Sheffield’s Jason Garrity, who had initially been pencilled in to guest at No 1 for Glasgow with Morris on World Cup duty, is now a doubt after a crash in last night’s meeting.
Dickson is yet to decide whether to bring in another guest or operate rider replacement, but he said: “Any sort of win on Sunday is the plan to finish off the week. To get seven points from three meetings is something we would certainly have taken.
“I think Scunthorpe will be tough on Sunday. I’m sure Theo Pijper will be out to prove a point, and they have Ben Barker at No 1 for Josh Auty – a former track record holder.”
Tonight’s Tigers scorers: Richard Lawson 11+1, James Sarjeant 7+2, Victor Palovaara 7+1, Nick Morris 7+1, Aaron Summers 7, Kozza Smith 5+2, Dimitri Berge 3.
