STEWART Dickson wants to create a fortress at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium – and make teams scared of coming to the Tigers’ den.
The Glasgow boss hit the mark with his track prep on Saturday as his side hammered title rivals Sheffield.
He’ll bid to create the perfect setup again this weekend as the Tigers face Peterborough in another Saturday night thriller.
The Panthers travel north with Jack Holder – the SGB Championship’s form rider – and former Glasgow man Ben Barker, guesting for World Cup star Chris Harris.
But Dickson hopes the circuit will suit his side as he looks to build momentum towards the top of the table.
He said: “Peterborough beat Ipswich on Sunday and us the week before. Their tails will be up. They’ve found a bit of form and it should be a tough meeting.
“I think they’re a different proposition than what they were four or five weeks ago. Jack Holder is riding on the crest of a wave at the moment and they have riders that ride our place well.
“But if we ride to our capabilities they should be going home pointless. They’ll be given the utmost respect but we intend to send them home with nothing.
“Hopefully we can start getting a run of results now, because it would be nice to do what we were doing last season and start scoring between 53 and 57 points every home match – then teams will start looking and saying, ‘We’re not going to get anything at Glasgow’.
“I think a lot of teams were beat before they came last season. This season both Ipswich and Workington have taken a point. We want to let teams know that they can’t get a point at Ashfield.”
He added: “It would be great to say that I’ll have the track exactly the same every match, but it’s not always possible because the weather can play a part in that.
“But the vibe I got was that everybody seemed to like it. We’ve found a happy medium now. We’ll try and get it as close to that – weather permitting – on Saturday.
“I’ve done a bit of work on the track this week and hopefully I can get it roughly the same for Saturday night, and we can give the riders a good surface from now right through until October.”
The Tigers team manager was pleased with Saturday’s 55-37 win over Sheffield, which saw his men move to within two points of the league summit.
He said: “Sheffield was easier than what we thought it would be. I did fancy us to win and I felt we would’ve got a reaction from the riders after losing to Peterborough. I had us down for maybe a 12-point win, so to win so convincingly was very pleasing.
“I think we were very good and how they raced isn’t my concern. We were pretty solid – it was a right good team effort.
“In the match against Ipswich, Nike Lunna was a bit off-form and so was Aaron Summers, and I think we lost four to six points in that meeting. Hopefully when Ipswich come back up we can put that right.
“Saturday there was more like our old selves, we were pretty solid the whole way through.”
