Glasgow took Hall before them at Redcar and went top of the league – thanks in part to a stellar performance from their reserve guest.
Berwick’s Richard Hall stood in for Victor Palovaara and was paid for 12 points as he joined his team-mates for several key heat advantages.
The 51-42 victory took them four points clear of Edinburgh at the Premier League summit.
The Tigers had just four last places all night as former Bears Richard Lawson and Aaron Summers each scored 14 on their return to Teeside. New reserve Hynek Stichauer also picked up four key places to be paid for seven.
Team boss Stewart Dickson said: “We went there targeting a win. I thought four points might have been just too much, but we got that in the end, which is very important.
“Our big two led the way – they are leading from the front – but a special mention to Richard Hall, who came in and did a great job for us.
“Hynek Stichauer had a great meeting for us. He was unlucky to get taken out his last race – I was just a bit concerned we were going to lose the extra point. It’s just a start for him and it puts his confidence up.
“Our other guest Stevie Worrall didn’t have the best of nights, he only scored five points, but we still managed to win.”
Dickson says it’s now up to the teams around them to chase after his Tigers.
He added: “We’re happy with the four points. We’re at the top – we’re running out of away matches but we can only do what we can do, and then sit back and others have got to do the same.
“When you’re winning, confidence is very high. Even when the guests come in, you’re part of a winning set-up, even before the meeting starts.
“We’re the same as many teams out there – we want our seven riders back – because once we do, it’s a case of ‘watch out’.
“We’ve had so much thrown at us – as have other teams – but we’re managing to overcome it every meeting. We’re not letting it affect us.
“It’s all about building points – that’s all we’re doing – because it doesn’t count for a lot if we don’t get the big one at the end of the season.”
