SPEEDWAY sensation Nike Lunna is set for a hair-raising season with Glasgow in 2017.
The Finnish flyer – famed for his golden afro – thrilled Tigers fans last year with his spectacular swooshes round the boards.
He had been forced to shave his head in the winter of 2015/16 when he was called up for national service.
But as his curly locks grew back, so did his performances – and he ended up helping the Ashfield aces win the KO Cup
He is back on track with his team-mates in their SGB Championship opener against Scunthorpe on Saturday at 7pm.
The 20-year-old, returning for his second season with the club, said: “I hope that when my hair is growing, my speed is growing too.
“I can still get my helmet on and it’s just extra padding!
“We had a practice on Saturday and I felt really good on the bike. They worked really well and I made some good starts too.
“Everything is brand new for me this season. I’ve got two new engines as well.
“It’s hard to say if they’re faster but everything is working how it should be and that’s making the difference.
“My first priority is to stay in one piece this season – no injuries – and after that, I can build up my confidence, get my average higher and maybe get some offers from the Premiership clubs.
“But most importantly I want to help the Tigers win the league.”
Glasgow have shifted from Sunday afternoons to Saturday nights as they build on the £2 million revamp of their facilities since 2014 – including upgraded floodlights for this season.
Lunna insists that’ll see bigger crowds and better racing.
He said: “I’ve seen our new lights and it’ll be like racing during the day, because they’re so good.
“The track is definitely going to be better too and I think we will get more people watching us. It’ll be a better show – it won’t just be about watching speedway.
“I’ve always been pretty bad on the starts so I like the track to be good so that I can produce good racing.
“But I still hope to make better gates, so that I can win races even when the track isn’t working for me.”
