AARON Summers believes Glasgow’s reserves can become small-screen stars when taking on Edinburgh live on Sky Sports tomorrow night.
The Tigers skipper will give his more inexperienced colleagues a pep talk on how to deal with the glare of the TV cameras ahead of the Scottish derby at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.
But although he anticipates some brutal battles at the top – with the likes of international stars Sam Masters, Ryan Fisher and Kevin Wolbert going head-to-head with Summers, Richard Lawson and Richie Worrall – the Australian thinks the fight could be won at the lower-end of the side.
Reserves Coty Garcia and Danny Ayres will be making their Sky debuts, and Summers said: “Being on TV definitely adds a little bit more pressure and you’ve got to try and not think about it, and just do what you would do in a normal meeting, otherwise it can affect you.
“I’ll speak to some of the other boys and just tell them not to worry about it too much.
“There hadn’t been a lot of speedway on TV lately, but the Grand Prix was on Saturday and they were at Berwick last night and at us on Wednesday, so it’s good to see. Everyone is still talking about Glasgow and how good it is here, so there’s something to show off.
“All the derby meetings bring a big crowd and I think this one will bring out a little bit extra because of the way we are going at that top-end of the table. The more points for us, the better, and we’re trying to pick up a few away too.
“You never know how some of the Edinburgh guys will go on the day but Sam is going to be a tough one to beat. He’s in such good form at the minute.
“It’s going to be a tough meeting for sure, but I think we have more strength at the lower end compared with everyone else.”
