NUTTY Nike Lunna has told how he raced his brakeless speedway bike at up to 70mph for five matches with a broken HAND.
The 19-year-old Finn went for two weeks without realising he’d injured himself.
He’s now set for a spell on the sidelines but says he’ll defy doctors’ orders to sit out for six weeks by returning in half that time.
He revealed: “I went to see a doctor because my hand had been very sore after a crash at Redcar two weeks ago.
“They told me my hand has been broken all this time.
“It was very sore after every race, but as soon as I have my bike under me, no broken hand can stop me.
“I thought it just had a bit of damage – but I couldn’t sleep very well because it was hurting so I went to see the doctor.
“I want to ride and win so badly, so I just tried to forget the pain and ride – and I guess I have a pretty good pain tolerance.
“They doctor told me to be off for six weeks but if I have done five meetings with a broken hand, I will be back after two to three weeks’ rest.”
Glasgow will operate rider replacement for Lunna on their travels to Ipswich and Peterborough tomorrow and Friday, with Rene Bach making his debut in the first meeting.
He has a Danish commitment on Friday, so the Tigers will bring in Sheffield star Kyle Howarth as a guest.
Rider replacement will also operate on Sunday for the home match against Berwick, when Bach makes his home debut at No 2.
