NIKE Lunna insists Glasgow’s season is still on track for success – despite missing the chance to win at Workington last night.
The Tigers were 10 points ahead by heat seven at Derwent Park but the Comets fought back to take a 48-45 win.
Finnish flyer Lunna went unbeaten in his first two rides, posting paid-eight in a steady performance at No 2, but was unable to stop the heat-eight tactical double from Mason Campton that sparked the hosts’ revival.
Glasgow still took a consolation point from the meeting to add to their tally at the top of the SGB Championship.
Lunna admitted it was points dropped instead of one gained, but believes it won’t dent the club’s bid to finish at the summit – as they still hold meetings in hand over all their closest rivals after today’s home meeting with Ipswich was rained off.
The 20-year-old said: “I started strongly but the track was a bit slick and I was struggling with setups.
“Workington isn’t my favourite track, I don’t fancy riding there, but I said before the meeting if I could score my average it would be good – and I did more than that – so I can be happy with my performance.
“We had a big lead and unfortunately the important heat came to me, when I needed to stop the black and white helmet. I felt so much faster than Campton but it’s such a difficult track to overtake on and that’s where we started going downhill.
“We maybe threw points away but we all still know we are the strongest team in the league, and it’s only one meeting – we can push back and we still have plenty of meetings in hand over Ipswich and Edinburgh.
“We are still in a good place, we need to hope that the luck is on our side next time.”
Glasgow travel to Ipswich on Thursday night in a huge top-of-the-table clash before their top four riders travel to Peterborough on Sunday to take part in the Championship Fours final.
