CRAIG Cook said he was “over the moon” to win the Championship Pairs at Somerset – and said it was all the sweeter because it happened with Glasgow.
The Tigers skipper joined Rasmus Jensen to win the trophy for the club for the first time since James Grieves and Joe Screen took victory in 2011.
In that same season Glasgow won the league title – and that’s now the target for Cook and his team-mates as they return to Somerset on Wednesday for the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final.
Cook said: “I’m over the moon. It’s a title I’ve never won so it completes the list of Championship trophies.
“It’s an amazing feeling but it’s even better to do it for Glasgow. Everyone puts so much into the club and they deserve this.
“I couldn’t make a gate all night but I had speed on the track. In the final we could’ve team rode but I knew Rasser had some speed. I got past Ryan Douglas and looked to see where he was.
“I think on the third lap he picked up some grip and Scott Nicholls got past him – and I was having to watch the race from the front – but he got back past him into third.
“It’s a great trophy to get, and we’ve only got the league left now, and that’s coming towards its conclusion – so we want to win that.
“Racing at Somerset tonight gives me and Rasser some insight into how it will play out on Wednesday, and we can pass on some of that knowledge to the other guys. We’ll be there giving it our all to get through to the final.”
The Tigers scored the most points in the qualification stages of the Pairs, making it to the semi-finals on 25.
They faced Sheffield in the semi, beating Kyle Howarth and Danny King for a 7-2, to book their place against Leicester in the final – the team they could end up facing in the league play-off final should results go that way.
