Glasgow’s dynamic duo Aaron Summers and Richard Lawson are hoping for an “incredible” atmosphere on Friday night to help in their bid to become Premier League champions.
The top Tigers sealed their side’s place in the play-off final with a last-heat win over Somerset in Sunday’s semi.
They’ve made heat 15s their own at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium this season, helping Glasgow to finish many of their meetings with a bang.
They’ll face much tenser final races if things go down to the wire this weekend, but the pair are just looking forward to being part of two massive meetings.
Captain Summers, 27, said: “We can’t look behind us – we’re only going to look forward. We’re going to go out there and give it our best.
“It would be great to win it, for sure. It would be massive for the club. It’s the biggest derby ever – it’s going to be awesome.
“The boys have worked hard all year and given it their all. We’re here for a reason, so we’ll give it our best.”
Lawson, 29, added: “It’s exciting. If we can get anything like the atmosphere we had on Sunday, it’ll be incredible. It was quite a meeting to be a part of – it was really tense – but I really enjoyed it.
“I think we go into it with nothing to lose. Whoever wins it over the two legs is going to need a bit of luck on their side – that’s just the way it is. We need to try and get everyone on form at the same time, which is what we have struggled with – me being guilty of that as well.
“Everyone has got it in them – and if they ride the way they’re capable of, there’s no reason why we can’t win it.”
The pair have put their dual success down to their on-track chemistry.
Summers said: “Me and Richard rode together last year at Redcar and were partners in heat 13 and 15 quite a lot. We know how each other rides and we can ride really well together – which helps in the tense heats.
“We know what lines to take and we look out for each other. We know where we’re going to be on the track, which is really good.
“We’ll always go out and give 110% no matter what the race is, but when we were going out on Sunday knowing we needed a heat advantage, it was a lot of pressure.
“I had won every other race, so I was feeling pretty confident, but you don’t want to make a mistake in those kinds of races. It’s do or die – one mistake and you lose it, and it could have been all over for us. It was awesome to get the win.”
Lawson said: “If there’s one guy you want to be out there riding with when the pressure’s on, it’s Aaron. It’s not going to be easy this time but I couldn’t ask for a better partner when it comes to things like that.
“With the form he’s on at the moment, it brings me a bit more confidence when I’m out there with him. I know he’s going to be there.
“Stewart [Dickson] did say to us that if we’re all level about heat 12, he’ll be happy, because he knows the latter heats is where we should be able to make it. Obviously it’d be nice if it didn’t come down to those last heats, but I think we’re in a good position if it does.”
Glasgow host the first leg at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium this Friday at 7.30pm, with the return leg at Armadale on Saturday at 7pm.
