Sheffield travel north to the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium this Sunday with their place in the end of season playoffs all but assured after a comfortable home win over the Rye House Rockets.
However, as things stand they could well be on their way back to Glasgow on another couple of occasions before the 2016 campaign is over. The Yorkshire Tigers are also in the semi finals of the League Cup where they face the Somerset Rebels.
If they can defeat the Premier League pacesetters a place in the final against their Scottish counterparts or Workington will be the reward.
With the sides vying for position within the top six they could also meet in the playoffs so both sets of Tigers could be seeing quite a bit of each other over the coming weeks.
The teams will be at full strength for this Sunday’s league encounter and the racing should be electric with a number of Ashfield specialists in the visitors septet including the all action Simon Stead.
It’s the home side’s first match since knocking rivals Edinburgh out of the KO Cup last Friday and they will be keen to build some momentum as the business end of the season approaches.
Glasgow team manager Stewart Dickson believes that this match has all the makings of a classic.
He said: “Sheffield’s home circuit is one of the fastest in the league so their riders aren’t shy when it comes to turning the throttle.
“The likes of Simon Stead enjoy coming here as our banked corners allow for some spectacular racing – I’m looking forward to Sunday immensely!
“However, as much as I want our fans to enjoy the entertainment my number one priority is a home win. Jason Garrity and Josh Bates are gaining valuable experience in the Elite League as is Kyle Howarth so we need to be at the top of our game.
“We allowed Somerset to get off to a strong start when they defeated us recently so we can’t allow the same thing to happen on Sunday.
“I spoke to the riders after we lost to the Rebels and they are keen to make amends. We have discussed the extended grading break and this won’t be repeated. They understand that we need to keep the dust down which can be difficult during afternoon meetings but this didn’t help our cause and I appreciate that it’s not ideal for all those watching either.
Dickson concluded: “Our fans were magnificent at Armadale and I was delighted that we were able to give them something to cheer about. We will be looking for similar backing this Sunday as it definitely gives the boys a real boost.”
