RICHARD Lawson insists he still believes in Glasgow’s chances of winning the SGB Championship – even as they face an uphill battle with injuries.
The Tigers have already lost Nike Lunna, Tom Perry and Dan Bewley to the treatment table in recent weeks, with the first two unlikely to return this season.
The Ashfield men have further concerns now after reserve Jack Smith had to withdraw from his meeting for Premiership side Belle Vue last night with a nasty finger injury.
Glasgow will use several guests when they visit Edinburgh tonight, then host Redcar tomorrow and Peterborough on Sunday, as they look to secure their spot in the playoffs.
And despite a depleted line-up and two recent home defeats to their biggest title rivals, heatleader Lawson – who top-scored in Wednesday’s loss to Ipswich – says there’s still a belief in the camp at they can make 2017 a success.
He said: “If we can finish this season off with a bang, I’ll end it smiling for sure.
“Things just haven’t come together the way we would like recently.
“”But with the potential we’ve got, I think we can go into those playoffs and win some trophies. We deserve it, and I do believe we can do it.
“Personally I’ve had some really good meetings recently. I had a couple of bad ones about a month or so back and hit a bit of a blip but I’m feeling good again and I’m happy with my form.”
Ashley Morris and James Sarjeant will stand in tonight at Edinburgh, with Jake Allen, Stuart Robson and Simon Lambert guesting tomorrow – when Lawson is also absent due to commitments in the Premiership – and David Howe and Mitchell Davey will don Tigers racejackets on Sunday.
Redcar will bring a reserve guest of their own in Nathan Greaves – who bagged double figures for his own team Ipswich on Wednesday night at Ashfield.
The Bears are the only team who can catch Glasgow or Edinburgh and beat them into fourth.
