GLASGOW Tigers and one of their star riders have been dealt a cruel blow after Nike Lunna crashed out of the 2017 campaign.
The spectacular Finnish rider came to grief while racing in the Swedish playoffs tonight, and was taken to hospital for treatment.
He was found to have broken two bones in his back and suffered a broken shoulder, spelling an end to his season.
The news comes on the eve of the busiest spell of the season for the Tigers, who face two matches in 48 hours against SGB Championship title rivals Sheffield later this week.
Lunna had enjoyed a steady season for Glasgow – his best and most consistent since coming to race in the UK – and has become a popular rider among the supporters for his all-action style.
In a message to fans, Lunna said: “Thank you for all get well messages, I will be back stronger next year.”
It’s understood the Tigers will not be able to replace Lunna, as the injury has come after the transfer deadline.
