Glasgow 
will hold a collection for stricken rider Kozza Smith on Sunday to help the 27-year-old return to his native Australia.
Smith suffered a broken femur and cracked ribs, as well as other damage, in a horrific crash at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Sunday.
It cost Smith around £16,000 to come and ride for Glasgow this season. He had spent months during the winter fighting to secure his visa to come and race in the UK, which was approved just a couple of weeks before the season started.
Among his costs was £1,800 for the visa, £7,000 for basic parts on the bike, £3,000 for a new engine, £2,000 for covers, suits and seats, and £1,750 for his one-way flight.
Smith said: “I absolutely love racing in front of the Glasgow fans. After a difficult start, I had been working hard – including extra practice at Ashfield to try and regain my form and just when things were picking up, disaster struck.
“The team spirit is really building and I’m gutted about now missing out on the push for silverware.”
However, Smith has vowed that he will be back – and will start his on-track recuperation Down Under.
He added: “I’m already targeting the national titles back home and a return to Ashfield next season.
“If I come back, I even plan to stay in Glasgow – I love the people and the city.”
