GLASGOW’S two representatives in tonight’s British Final missed out on the meeting’s latter stages by just a point.
Tigers No 1 Richard Lawson started the meeting well – winning his opening ride and pushing eventual champion Craig Cook extremely hard in his second race to put himself among the contenders on five points.
But he faded in the latter stages and despite a great fight from last to second in his final heat, he finished on nine points.
Meanwhile Richie Worrall battled hard for his nine points, but looked to be struggling for speed all night – losing points from good positions after making a series of sharp starts.
Former Edinburgh man Cook battled past Steve Worrall in the final to take the crown for the first time, and secure a place as the wild card at the British Grand Prix in Cardiff.
There was also an outing for Glasgow reserve Jack Smith – also the meeting’s reserve – who replaced Kyle Howarth in heat 16 when the Sheffield rider was excluded for moving at the start.
Smith acquitted himself well, chasing the tail of Jason Garrity at the back for four laps and looking well on the pace in a tough field.
