GLASGOW hope to be at full strength for their prospective League Cup final first leg this weekend after their riders emerged largely unscathed from Sunday’s meeting.
Rene Bach and Coty Garcia both withdrew from the KO Cup semi-final against Somerset at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium following heavy crashes, while Richie Worrall and Danny Ayres were also involved in pile-ups, though carried on with the match.
In addition, Nike Lunna has been out with a hand injury for the past two weeks.
But it’s anticipated that all seven riders will line up in the final on Sunday – a meeting Glasgow will qualify for should they avoid a massive defeat at Workington on Saturday night. They also have a Premier League tie at Edinburgh on Friday night to complete.
Bach said: “I’m OK. I’m just a bit beat up and sore but hopefully a few days’ rest should fix that.”
As things stand, Lunna plans to be back on track on Saturday night. He suffered a burnt hand and broken finger in a collision at Redcar last month.
Garcia had pain in his knee following a few spills on Sunday but was able to walk afterwards and is expected to be fine for the weekend.
Team manager Stewart Dickson said: “Things can change very quickly but we’re hopeful they’ll be OK.
“Nike should be back at the weekend and it would be nice to get back to seven riders.”
Meanwhile, Glasgow now know their opponents in the semi-finals of the play-offs for the Premier League championship.
The Tigers will take on Sheffield – the first leg taking place next Thursday (October 13) at Owlerton, with the return in Glasgow on Sunday, October 16 at 3pm.
It comes after the Yorkshire Tigers produced a shock result to knock Newcastle out in the quarter-finals.
However, Glasgow could still face the men from the North-east as they bid to make the KO Cup final, with Rye House their semi-final opponents.
Should the League Cup final first leg go ahead this Sunday, the second leg will be held next Friday (October 14).
