Glasgow boss Stewart Dickson has vowed to draw a line under his side’s worst result of the season so far.
The Ashfield men went down 57-35 at Berwick on a night where they were up against it from the start.
Both reserves – Victor Palovaara and Dimitri Berge – were missing while on European Under-21 duty and that meant the Tigers could only field National League guests.
The stand-ins, Ellis Perks and Matt Williamson, gave their all but only managed only three points from 13 races and it was perhaps the absence of the regular 1-7 – with the injured James Sarjeant also out of things – that cost them the chance of challenging for the spoils.
Glasgow could only take one major positive from the night and that was the form of Richard Lawson, who – after a bad first outing when he finished third – went unbeaten in his remaining four races.
No 1 Nick Morris again had an up and down night, gaining a win and a paid win but crashing and hurting his knee in heat 11.
Skipper Aaron Summers, riding at No 5, had his worst meeting for some time by scoring only four.
And there are more injury concerns for the Tigers as new signing David Howe had to withdraw from the match after four races – including a win – with a suspected dislocated shoulder.
Dickson said: “It was always going to be tough. They rode well, I’ve got to be honest, as well as us not being great. They only beat what was put in front of them.
“David Howe has, we think, got a dislocated shoulder and he’s going to be out of action to get himself fixed – our concern is with him. He’s going to see a specialist on Monday.
“It didn’t happen for Aaron tonight for one reason or another. Let’s hope that’s his bad one out the road and we can get him back on form.
“It was one of those nights and you’ve got to draw a line under it. It’s maybe good that we don’t have a meeting tomorrow – it gives us two or three days get regrouped and we’ll be ready for Tuesday night.
“I feel sorry for the travelling fans. I just want to say well done to them for travelling in great numbers again and hopefully we can give them something to cheer about on Tuesday night.”
Sarjeant is aiming to make his comeback for his Elite League side Coventry on Monday night, and should he get through that unscathed, it’s hoped he will be fit to take his place in the Tigers’ side on Tuesday when Sheffield visit in the League Cup.
