GLASGOW’S new boy is having to go Bach to the start to get up to speed in Britain – but is ready to kick on with a win on his former stomping ground tomorrow.
Rene Bach is three meetings into his Tigers career after replacing Ben Barker following a spell out of British speedway, and believes he’ll only get better once he can get off the start line.
The Dane helped Glasgow beat Edinburgh in a scintillating Scottish derby on Wednesday with 6+1, but is a potential match-winner when they travel to Workington tomorrow in the Premier League.
He’s a former Comets No 1, along with Tigers team-mate Richard Lawson, having spent most of his UK career in Cumbria.
Bach is looking forward to renewing old acquaintances but will put friendships aside to bid for up to four big league points.
He said: “On Wednesday night, I found a pretty good set-up on the track but I just struggled off the starts.
“It’s frustrating because I feel there’s a lot more to come from me – but it’s hard when you’re not in front from the tapes – so I’m working on that.
“We had a two-week break before the Edinburgh match and that’s not really what I needed, but we’ve got a busy week so hopefully we go to Workington and have a good meeting there, and come back to Glasgow on Sunday and do it all again versus Sheffield.
“I get on with the whole team at Workington and it’s going to be fun riding against some of my mates. I’ve got nothing bad to say about them – it’ll be good to get back and see everyone.
“We have a team that can go all the way and win there.”
“We saw them on Sky on Monday and they were struggling – so they’ve obviously got a point to prove. It’s going to be a tough meeting because they have some good riders, even for when they come to Glasgow.
“But we have some good riders at their place so Saturday should be another good meeting. We have got a team that can go all the way and win there, so we’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing and if I pull my finger out a bit more we should be alright.
“Their track is similar to Glasgow’s – there are maybe a few more lines to pass on. Rich was the No 1 there, I’ve been the No 1 there and Aaron Summers and Richie Worrall are good away riders. It’s going to be a tough meeting but we can go there and get a point or even win.”
Coty Garcia, star of Wednesday’s show, moves into the main body of the Tigers team from today thanks to his superb recent form – meaning Nike Lunna drops to reserve.
However, with the Finn likely to be sidelined for much of July, Glasgow will likely have to rely on reserves to deputise.
Sheffield’s Australian reserve Arthur Sissis has been drafted in at No 6 for tomorrow’s match.
