TIGERS skipper Aaron Summers spent 48 hours on the road this week as he travelled close to 3,000 miles on a European tour.
The Australian drove from his home near Berwick to Bydgoszcz in Poland to work with tuner Ashley Holloway in a bid to get the best out of his engines.
Summers then travelled to Denmark to watch one meeting and compete in another – before motoring back to the UK to race at Leicester last night.
He’ll be in Glasgow tomorrow to test out new machinery, along with Coty Garcia, ahead of the big Scottish derby clashes in the coming days.
The 28-year-old made the trip with his mechanic in an effort to improve his away form for the Tigers and his performances in the Elite League – but may have bagged himself the chance to race more often on the continent.
He said: “It was a good trip. I changed a few things in the engines on Tuesday – I spent about 12 hours in the tuner’s workshop.
“On Wednesday we drove to Denmark to watch Slangerup at Holsted, then stayed at Rene Bach’s place. I was at Outrup the next day where I scored 7+1 and made it into heat 14.
“The Slangerup meeting came about through Alun Biggart, who used to have involvement with Glasgow. He called me to ask if I would be up for it. I’m not sure how it works yet, if I can only ride for Slangerup now, but I think so.
“Alun helped out with translation and stuff for me. They were impressed with how I went for my first time so hopefully I should get more opportunities. I’ll need to buy another complete bike and use my other Swedish bike as well, and have a full set-up over there, if I start getting more.
“All in we did my place to Bydgoszcz then to Holsted, on to Slangerup, back to Coventry to do my bike then Leicester last night and we finally went home to wash my bikes – then I’ll test out a new engine tomorrow.
“I haven’t calculated the miles yet – but it was a hell of a lot!”
