GLASGOW have booked their place in the League Cup semi-finals with one match to spare after they twice came from behind to draw 45-45 at Berwick.
A brilliant paid 13 points from reserve Coty Garcia at his former track was the highlight, while the experienced trio of Richard Lawson, Ben Barker and Aaron Summers also scored double points.
The result was all the more impressive given Nike Lunna and Danny Ayres had an off-night on a track they have little experience of, scoring just one point between them. They also had to use rider replacement for the injured Richie Worrall.
The two points gained takes the Tigers onto eight from three meetings in the Border group, which also contains Edinburgh.
Glasgow now wait to see who they’ll face in the last four.
Team boss Stewart Dickson said: “It was job done. We came looking for a win initially, but we got what we needed.
“I’m quite happy. Coty Garcia was good, but quite tired. Nike Lunna and Danny Ayres didn’t like the track, but they’re going to have to learn them. Danny was out doing the second half after the meeting, which is always good to see.
“The boys did well. A draw will keep everybody happy. It means that Berwick don’t lose for a second consecutive week, which is never good for business in speedway, and we get what we came for and a wee bit more.
“More importantly, we still remain unbeaten in domestic competition, which is really what it’s all about.
“I think it’s fair to say that Stuart Robson was an excellent guest for them, whereas we missed Richie Worrall slightly.
“All in all, we’ll take that, and the most important thing is that we’ve still got the six guys fit for tomorrow. For Nike and Danny, tomorrow is another day and we’ll get them going again.”
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow at 3pm, when they face Redcar Bears at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium in their first Premier League meeting of the season.
