GLASGOW raced to a convincing win over Berwick to go third in the SGB Championship on Friday – then confirmed the signing of one of British speedway’s hottest prospects.
The Tigers had been dealt the blow of losing talisman Craig Cook before the meeting for personal reasons, while Ulrich Ostergaard remains on the sidelines.
But former club favourite Richard Lawson was an able deputy for Cook – racing to 12+1 points.
Meanwhile British Under-21 Champion Tom Brennan deputised for Ostergaard, before the club confirmed his signing was permanent following Eastbourne’s withdrawal from the league earlier this week.
Brennan only managed 3+1 in the 54-36 victory, but has impressed in previous Ashfield performances.
Tigers boss Cami Brown admits the Bandits made it tough for his side early on.
He said: “It was tight at first but we didn’t expect anything less.
“The guys have been tremendous – everybody has contributed. I think Tom Brennan has been really unlucky with having a fall in his first race, and his number one bike blew in his third race. I think we’ll see a lot more from him in the future.
“We want consistency and racing week-in, week-out. The weather has decided not to allow that the last few weeks as we know, but let’s hope it’s better going forward – and we can get these fixtures done and dusted.
“We needed three points tonight to get us kicking off again. We go away from home next week and we’ll go with confidence. It’s going to be really difficult at Poole and Leicester but we’ll give it our best.”
The win moves Glasgow back to third in the table, having dropped to fifth on Thursday when all points won against Eastbourne were removed from team totals.
