CAPTAIN Chris Harris admits his side need to find their “A-game” when they face Scunthorpe.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers need to beat the Scorpions by nine points at Ashfield on Friday night to jump above them into second place in the final Cab Direct Championship league table.
That would mean a choice of home legs for their forthcoming crunch play-off semi-final clashes.
Harris said: “It’s definitely our biggest meeting of the season right now.
“The way the team has been performing lately, we’ve been a bit up and down. It’s hard when you’ve got two guests in for every meeting.
“We need to all be on our A-game and aim for the 50 points that we really need.”
Harris moves down to No.5 as Leon Flint goes to No.1 while Dan Thompson and Max Perry come in as guests.
He added: “The team has been shuffled around a bit. Hats off to Leon (Flint) as he goes to No.1, he’s had a fantastic season and deserves to be there.
“Funny enough I’ve always enjoyed being at No.5. Before the ruling came in about the top averaged rider being at No.1, I always preferred choosing to be No.5.
“It’s nice to watch a few heats before my first ride and hopefully the dirt has moved out a bit by the time I come out. I think being that number suits me.
“I’m always honoured and want to be at No.1. But it’s only a number and as long as the team is going well, it doesn’t really matter.”
Harris also reflected on a tough night at the Championship Pairs with elimination at the semi-final stage to eventual champions Oxford.
He added: “On a personal note I had a nightmare from the start with problems with both bikes. It was a stressful hard night right the way through.
“To miss out in the semi-final was hard. Leon rode fantastic like he has all season.
“I was trying my best to slow the race down and Anders Rowe behind me in the safest possible way, to help Leon get round.
“Oxford were the best team on the night, so fair play to them and congratulations. Sam Masters gets round Poole so well and he was gating brilliantly. Anders did a great job as well. They deserved it.”
