CHRIS HARRIS has vowed he has a “point to prove” after becoming Glasgow’s fifth signing of the close season.
The three-times British Champion returns to Ashfield Stadium, five years after last appearing for the Tigers in the SGB Championship.
Harris, 40, admits he was frustrated by not hitting his usual high standards back then and wants to put that right in 2023.
He said: “I have a point to prove. Last time in 2018, it just didn’t go to plan. I had a lot of bike issues. Now I’ve got better equipment, it’s time to go back and show the Glasgow fans what I’m all about.
“I’ve been back there with other clubs since and done well. Now I want to do well for the home side.
“There were a few factors in 2018. I think the track had changed shape slightly and it was picking the right lines.
“It was a frustrating time. Plus the travelling was a lot and my youngest daughter was just born, juggling all that and getting home in the early hours was tough.
“Now though I’m totally focused and ready to put things right. I want to win over the fans and show my worth.
“It’s a well-run club, professional and organised and I’m looking forward to being back.”
Harris is renowned for his incredible top flight league championship-winning record with Coventry and more recently Poole.
But he is determined to end a barren spell having not won a title in the second tier since the start of his career.
He added: “I’m always in it to win it, that’s what we are here for. I’ve not won the second tier of British speedway since 2000 with Exeter, we are talking about 22 years!
“I was out of the league for a long time but I want to win it with Glasgow.
“The backing I’ve got now from Shaun Harvey at Northeast Demolition, they are supplying me with the best equipment I’ve probably ever had. I’m ready for a new challenge.”
Harris becomes the final piece of a potent top three including Ben Basso and Tom Brennan – two riders he already knows very well.
He continued: “Obviously I’ve ridden with Ben (Basso). He’s crazy and I love him to bits. He wants to win, the banter between him and I at Peterborough was great. We were always pushing each other on the track. I didn’t want to get beaten by the youngsters.
“I’ve worked with Tom (Brennan) at Great Britain, he’s a good lad with a lot of talent and very down to earth.
“Between the three of us as the heat leaders, we all want that No.1 spot. I’m sure it will change during the year.
“Then we’ve also got Ace (Pijper), a really young lad. I know his dad Theo very well from the longtrack. I hope I can help and pass on some experience to him.
“The same goes for Marcin Nowak, the young Pole. It will be good to race with him and help as much as I can.”
