Team news from the Tigers camp this morning is not great, with skipper Joe Screen having been forced out of last night’s league visit to Redcar after just one ride with a hand/wrist injury. At the time of writing the extent of Joe’s injury is not known, we will update further as soon as we have any firmer diagnosis.
Having shown a recent return to the form we associate with Joe, unfortunately his injury didn’t help the Tigers cause as we fell to a 37-56 defeat on the night. Tigers scorers at the STMP were:
Dakota North 15, James Grieves 6, Joe Jacobs 5, Anders Thomsen 5, Henning Bager 3, Ben Morley 2, Joe Screen 1
Whilst Dakota rightly made all the headlines with his superb score, great credit must go to Anders who was feeling pretty sore having been involved in a crunching crash in Denmark the night before when he was run over by a chasing rider.
There is some better news ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Ipswich in that Joey Ringwood is now feeling a lot better and had declared himself fit to line-up and continue his recently improved scoring for the Tigers.
Whilst the home camp await news on Joe Screen, the team will otherwise be unchanged from the line-up which pushed Somerset to a last heat decider.
Ipswich have a very solid and talented line-up led, of course, by former Ashfield track record holder, the dynamic Ben Barker who will relish the perfect race surface which will again be on offer this weekend. The Witches have a team structure which generates fire power from all quarters of the side, and this again means that the Tigers will very much have to be ‘on it’ right from tapes up on heat 1 and again contest every lap of every heat.
With their former Ipswich connections, each of Dakota North and Joe Jacobs will perhaps feel they have more to prove on Sunday, and that will add an extra element of interest throughout.
Glasgow: Joe Screen, Dakota North, Henning Bager, Anders Thomsen, James Grieves, Joey Ringwood, Joe Jacobs
Ipswich: Ben Barker, Cameron Heeps, Rohan Tungate, Leigh Lanham, Morten Risager, Adam Ellis, Ritchie Hawkins
We enjoyed another terrific afternoon’s racing last Sunday, with lots of incident and excitement, and the atmosphere in the stadium was tremendous. Let’s aim to recreate that again this Sunday, it should be a cracker.
A reminder that Sunday will be the last opportunity, before the event itself, to purchase / order your tickets for the forthcoming Sports Dinner fund raiser towards the purchase of a protective barrier as required in 2014. Ticket prices are £35 – click here to read full details.
Any supporter unable to attend the Sports Dinner will have the ability to make a fund raising donation, more details will be announced shortly. One option meantime however is to generously sponsor the Growler Kids for their sponsored walk around the track on 1st September. Sponsorship can be pledged at the stadium on Sunday, else via email to: growlersclub@hotmail.co.uk
We will bring you more team news once known ahead of Sunday – see you there!
