TEAM boss Cami Brown admitted his side were always up against it after being well-beaten at Scunthorpe.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers lost big-hitter Steve Worrall due to illness just three hours before the 55-35 defeat at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday).
Only Chris Harris, with 15 points, along with Leon Flint and Ace Pijper carried the fight for the away side.
Brown said: “The boys gave it 110 per cent tonight, I’m pleased with the effort. We were always going to be up against it without Steve.
“I hate losing and I’m looking forward to getting Scunthorpe back at our place on a nice smooth track and seeing if they can cope with that.
“I think with Stevie in the team we would have pushed Scunthorpe all the way. It’s ifs and buts. Stevie’s not in the team, Scunthorpe have won, no complaints.”
After a low-key start, Flint delivered an excellent 10 points while Pijper produced his best performance of the season with paid seven.
Flint added: “It’s a frustrating place because if you’re not dialled in on the set-up, it can be a long night.
“After my first two rides I had to do something drastic. I just about changed everything I possibly could and got a bit of fresh air and felt pretty good on the bike.
“Obviously we struggled a lot without Stevie. But we’ve got to take the positives.
“Ace has been great. His confidence has been down lately but he was tussling with Scunthorpe’s best.”
