TEAM boss Cami Brown admits his side need a “huge performance” at Plymouth after only a narrow home win in the MAXiCab KO Cup quarter-final, first leg.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers beat the Devon side 47-43 in a highly-entertaining encounter at Ashfield last night (Friday).
However, Brown’s side were plagued by several mechanical issues which cost them dearly.
Now the Tigers go to Plymouth tonight (Sat) in the second leg to decide who progresses to the semi-finals.
Brown said: “The Gladiators are a really good side this season with Ashfield specialists so we knew it as going to be a tough night.
“One of our biggest issues is that riders love coming to Ashfield because it’s such a great racetrack. Danny King, Scott Nicholls and Ben Barker are proper racers and loved every minute of it.
“I felt our boys got stuck in. It’s never easy when you’ve got riders missing and have guests in the team. I have to thank Nick Morris and Simon Lambert who did exactly the job we wanted from them.
“But we didn’t have much luck with bike problems and we just weren’t starting well enough. To be honest the mechanical gremlins may have cost us a 10-point lead.
“However that’s the cards we have been dealt, and we need to make up for it now.
“It’s going to be tough down there and we need a huge performance to progress to the semis. The boys will give it everything. We have Lewis Kerr and Kyle Newman coming in as guests for Leon Flint and Mario Hausl. They have ridden Plymouth already this season and are always 100 per cent riders.
“Our KO Cup record has been awful since we won it in 2016, we’ve not reached a final thereafter and that’s not good enough. We need to pull out all the stops to change that tonight.”
