GLASGOW hope top man Craig Cook will return for their SGB Championship tie against Redcar on Friday.
The Tigers No 1 was forced to withdraw from last Friday’s match with Leicester after a heavy crash in his opening ride.
He had also been set to miss the trip to Plymouth on Tuesday but the meeting was postponed.
Cook will undergo a late fitness test for the visit of the Bears, as Glasgow look to pull 10 points clear of one of their play-off rivals in the race to finish in the top two.
Cami Brown, team manager, said: “We’re 85% sure Craig will be in the team on Friday. He’s going to come up early for a practice and hopefully he’ll come through that OK – but we’ll have someone on standby just in case.
“Last Friday against Leicester I thought was our best performance of the season. Most people might think Redcar aren’t as good as Leicester on paper but I don’t think that.
“They have plenty of guys who know our track well so it won’t be easy.
“Our home record the last two or three years has been fantastic and we want to keep that going. It’s our last match before a bit of a gap in the home league meetings and it’s crucial we win them all.”
Friday will also see Danyon Hume returning to No 2 as Connor Bailey drops back to reserve.
Brown has been impressed with Hume’s form – and that of all his young guns.
He said: “Danyon been riding so well having him at reserve recently has been fantastic.
“I can turn to Danyon or Broc Nicol and ask them to fill in if someone is out of form – I’ve had to take Connor out a couple of times recently as he’s found it a bit tougher in the main body of the team.
“But I know how good Connor will be at reserve so we’re not really losing out.
“Danyon could ride anywhere because he’s going so well and Broc’s form is just getting better.
“Ben Basso has been flying and Tom Brennan has been making the steady improvement we expected of him. Those five guys have added several points to their overall average.
“It’s what I hoped they would do but having it happen is a different thing – let’s hope they continue and there’s still time to get better again.”
Friday’s meeting will be followed by a trip to Birmingham on Wednesday before a Team GB v Rest of the World contest at Ashfield next Saturday.
