GLASGOW boss Cami Brown admitted his team had to “dig deep” to beat Berwick.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers edged the Bandits 51-39 in a tight BSN Series clash at Ashfield Stadium on Friday night.
Chris Harris was the top man for the home side with a paid maximum score after several thrilling rides in a hard-fought battle.
Brown said: “We knew that Berwick would be a tough challenge for us and it turned out that way.
“The boys had to find something special and dig deep to get the first home win. It’s always hard when the boys haven’t had many laps around Ashfield.
“The main thing was to get the win. I felt everyone got stuck in to get the result we needed.
“We’ve got three new lads in the team and they need more track time to really find their feet.
“But overall I’m delighted to have got the win after drawing at Edinburgh a week ago.
“I felt the team was beginning to gel. Mario (Hausl) improved as the night went on. Freddy (Hodder) has bike issues but finished well in Heat 14.
“A special mention for Chris who was absolutely sensational again with a couple of incredible race victories from the back.”
The backbone of the win was a brilliant night from the top three of Harris, Kyle Howarth and Leon Flint. They dropped just four points in total.
Harris began the night with an epic win over Peter Kildemand in Heat 1, after the Dane had found a way past, ‘Bomber’ then found a way to win in a very tight contest.
The first breakthrough for the home side was in Heat 5 with a Flint and Kevin Juhl Pedersen 5-1.
Mario Hausl and the impressive Sam Hagon delivered two crucial third places on the line in Heats 10 and 11 to extend the lead to eight points.
Harris had performed a spectacular wall of death pass of Victor Palovaara on the fourth bend of Heat 10 in the most breathtaking fashion.
In torrential rain, Howarth and Harris then produced a thrilling finale with another 5-1 from the back.
Brown added: “We now go to Berwick on Saturday night going for another win. But the least we need to do is get the aggregate bonus point.
“It will be very tough because Berwick have a strong side which they showed at Ashfield.”
